It’s a perfect icebreaker for new ****comunity members to know each others. You may choose English, Italian, French and Spanish as the default language.

UPDATES

[2023/10/31] 📢 Piñata is now Open Source! I’m thrilled to let you all know that Piñata, my beloved bot, is now Open Source! 🥳This means that you can now dive into its workings, improve it or customize it to better suit your community’s unique needs. Of course you can keep using the current free version if you want. Check out the project on GitHub!

[2023/06/12] Bug fix. Piñata was using a wrong approach (my bad) to retrieve all members in a specific channel. For that reason, certain users (not cached ones) weren’t appearing in the match. That has been fixed now. Code has been improved and that shouldn’t happen again (I hope). Enjoy!

[2022/11/26] Piñata messages will now show user mentions in plain text. Usernames are not clickable anymore. This workaround will avoid an error on mobile phones when users would see an id instead a name (a known old issue in Discord. Hopefully they will fix it soon).

[2023/01/01] New support server on Discord. Feel free to join Piñata on Discord if you need support, talk to the creator, report any bug or give feedback. Join today using this invite https://discord.gg/XMdrNExKRJ

INSTRUCTIONS

⚠️ Piñata needs these permissions: see channel and send messages on the channel you will be using it. If you see errors like “Application not responding” or it keeps waiting forever when using the /match command, make sure you have granted these permissions to the role “Piñata” or directly to the bot. Enjoy 😊

Instructions are pretty simple.

 1. Click “Add to Discord” to add Piñata to your Discord server.
 2. Choose a text channel (avoid threads and voice channels) in your server and run the command /match there. The bot will match the people that are currently in that channel in pairs and once it’s finished, it will post a message like this one below. Piñata bot must have permission to send messages in that channel.

 1. Users now may click the button “Open the Piñata!” to know who’s been matched with. Now your community members can know each other 👋 do business 💼 or whatever they want 💃🕺

 2. Anytime you want (e.g. every week or so) you may run the command /match command again. Another round will kick in and no users will be matched together again.

COMMANDS

/match

Use this command to kick a new round of pairings. Piñata will retrieve the list of users which are currently on the channel where you issued the command. It will create random groups of two people. Once it’s finished, it will post a message informing users that the Piñata is ready!
